Held at the Parks Centre for Mental Health Research Wacol Queensland
Conference Aims
The history of the Australian Government through its Child Welfare Departments has been
one of family separation through Government policy and practice. Those policies have encompassed infant adoption,
state wardship, Government policy of Assimilation of Indigenous people, and British Child Migration Schemes.
In more recent years policy has changed to
focus on reunification and family preservation.
This Conference is the second of its kind to bring together, and represent, all families
who have been torn apart by past policies. Its aim is to focus on that which unites us all – the mental
health issues, both generational and immediate, created by a united trauma, loss and grief.
The Conference will involve the participation of mental health professionals, counsellors, agencies,
NGOs, consumer representatives.
